Execution of a Prisoner in Urmia Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Saturday, 25 July 2026: The death sentence of at least one prisoner, who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on a murder charge, was carried out in Urmia Prison.

According to reporters of Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Urmia Prison in the early hours of Saturday, 25 July. The prisoner has been identified by Breathing in Confinement as Sardar Qaderi.

According to the report, Sardar Qaderi, from Gapis village in Mahabad County, was arrested five years ago on charges of murdering a man named Javamir Ariyaei during a dispute over a property conflict involving his relatives. He was subsequently sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary. The sentence was carried out in the early hours of Saturday, 25 July 2026, in Urmia Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran.
