Two Brothers, Saeed and Hamid Najafi, Executed Simultaneously in Qezel Hesar Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Tuesday, 25 August 2026: The death sentences of at least two imprisoned brothers, who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on a charge of moharebeh (enmity against God) through armed robbery, were carried out in Qezel Hesar Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were hanged in Qezel Hesar Prison at dawn on Tuesday, 25 August. The prisoners have been identified by Breathing in Confinement as Saeed Najafi and Hamid Najafi.
According to the report, Saeed and Hamid Najafi, both residents of Kuhdasht, had been sentenced to death in a joint case. Saeed Najafi had previously been arrested on a charge of armed robbery and was serving a prison sentence. In 2018, while Saeed had been transferred to a hospital to receive medical treatment, his brother Hamid Najafi, accompanied by Younes Najafi and several others, raided the hospital and succeeded in helping him escape.
Following the incident, Saeed and Hamid Najafi were rearrested and sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, on a charge of moharebeh (enmity against God) through armed robbery. Their death sentences were subsequently upheld by Branch 26 of the Supreme Court.
It should be noted that in June this year, the executions of Saeed and Hamid Najafi had been temporarily halted to allow them an opportunity to obtain the consent of the complainants and those who had suffered losses in the case. However, their death sentences were ultimately carried out at dawn on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, in Qezel Hesar Prison.
