Execution of Ali Mirzaei, a Singer from Babol, in Babol Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Wednesday, 2 September 2026: The death sentence of at least one prisoner, who had previously been arrested on a charge of “murder” and sentenced to death, was carried out in Babol Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Babol Prison at dawn on Wednesday, 2 September. Breathing in Confinement has confirmed the prisoner’s identity as Ali Mirzaei.
According to the report, Ali Mirzaei, a singer from Babol, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death by the judiciary in connection with an unintentional killing during an altercation at a café. Three months ago, he was transferred to solitary confinement for the implementation of his sentence. However, the execution was halted and he was granted a three-month reprieve.
Ultimately, efforts to obtain the consent of the victim’s family for clemency were unsuccessful, and his death sentence was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 2 September, in Babol Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 2,616 people were executed in Iran during the Iranian year 1404. Of these, 12 were executed in public. The executions also included 67 women and eight juvenile offenders.
