Continued Pressure on Lawyers; Two Attorneys in Shiraz Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Sunday, 6 September 2026: Two attorneys in Shiraz have been sentenced to prison on charges of “propaganda against the system” and “assembly and collusion against the system.”
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Mehran Ansari and Mehdi Ansari, two attorneys based in Shiraz, have been sentenced to one year and three years in prison, respectively, in cases related to their political and social activities. The sentences against both lawyers have been declared final.
Mehran Ansari was sentenced to one year in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the system.” According to available information, the sentence has been finalised. He had previously spent approximately one month in detention.
Mehran Ansari, born in September 1987, began practising as an attorney in 2017 after obtaining his licence to practise law.
Mehdi Ansari, another attorney in Shiraz, was also sentenced to three years in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion against the system.” The sentence issued against him has also been finalised.
Mehdi Ansari, born in June 1989, has held a licence to practise law since 2020 and, according to available information, had previously spent approximately two weeks in detention.
The two attorneys are related to each other.
