Breathing in Confinement, December 30, 2020: Arash Ganji, translator, and secretary of the board of directors of the Iranian Writers Association, was sentenced by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran to 11 years in prison. The verdict was notified to his lawyer on Wednesday, December 30.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, headed by Judge Amouzadeh, sentenced Arash Ganji to a total of 11 years in prison; five years on a charge of “conspiracy to act against national security,” 1 year on a charge of “propaganda against the regime” and 5 years on a charge of “membership and cooperation with an opposition group.”
Mr. Ganji’s lawyer, Nasser Zarafshan said that the only evidence for all of these allegations is translating a book named “A Small Key Can Open A Large Door” on developments in Syrian Kurdistan.
