Breathing in Confinement: Amnesty International calls for the release of the human rights lawyer, Amir Salar Davoodi.
Amnesty International writes: “Amirsalar Davoodi is one of the victims of the repression of human rights lawyers by the Iranian authorities in recent years, who is serving his second year of unjust sentence. He has received a prison sentence for defending human rights. He must be released immediately and unconditionally.”
Security forces arrested Amirsalar Davoodi on November 20, 2018, in his office. And in Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Salavati, he was charged with “insulting the Supreme Leader”, “propaganda against the regime” and “forming a group with the intention of disrupting national security”. He accordingly was sentenced to 30 years in prison, 111 lashes, and a fine of six million Tomans, as well as to two years of deprivation from social rights.
The sentence was upheld as Mr. Davoodi refused to appeal it. According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, 15 years of his sentence is applicable.
In recent years, Mr. Davoodi had represented a number of political and ideological prisoners and had repeatedly been summoned and interrogated.
