At Least 14 Protest Gatherings Held Across Different Cities

Breathing in Confinement – At least fourteen protest gatherings and demonstrations were held by various groups of people across the country.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran:

• Social Security retirees in Shush, Karkheh, and Haft-Tappeh, as well as in Tehran, Ahvaz, and Rasht, took to the streets. They protested against the failure to implement pension equalisation properly, severe livelihood difficulties, injustice inflicted upon them, and delays in payment of their dues. Protesters chanted slogans including: “We will fight, we will die, we will claim our rights,” “They looted Social Security and ruined us,” “We don’t want useless laws,” “Imprisoned workers must be freed,” “Our demands are livelihood and healthcare,” “Their slogan is Hussein, their practice is theft,” and “Warmongering is enough — our tables are empty.”

• Steel and mine retirees in Isfahan, Kerman, and Mazandaran also gathered to protest against the failure to implement pension equalisation, worsening economic hardship, injustice, and delayed payments. Steel retirees in Isfahan chanted: “Hey, president, you lied to the nation,” and “We are united, we demand nothing but our rights.”

• Buyers of imported Changan cars gathered in front of the Office of Marketing and Sales. They objected to lack of transparency in final pricing, one-sided contracts, denial of the right to complain, and delays in delivery despite full payment made three months earlier.

• Third-party contract workers of the Gachsaran Oil and Gas Company marched in protest against pay discrimination and repeated broken promises by officials. They demanded the elimination of contracting companies, equalisation of pay with permanent employees, and conversion to permanent contracts. Protesters chanted: “We will not stop until we win our rights,” and “Workers are awake, they reject discrimination.”

• Orchard owners and farmers in Falavarjan gathered in front of the county governor’s office to protest the lack of allocated irrigation water rights and the risk of their trees drying up.

• Medical, dental, and pharmacy graduates from foreign universities also staged a protest. They objected to professional limbo, denial of employment, and exclusion from national examinations. Their main slogan was: “We will stand, we will die, we will claim our rights.”

• Students of Pars University of Art and Architecture gathered to protest a 53% hike in tuition fees.

• Parents of students in Anar (Kerman) gathered and marched in front of the Department of Education, protesting against the failure to implement the ministry’s directive to vacate the department’s building and hand it over to the technical high school.

• Drivers of municipal rental agencies in Kermanshah gathered in front of the governor’s office, protesting against low wages, lack of job security, illegal dismissals, and neglect of their professional demands.
