Breathing in Confinement: The death sentence of at least one prisoner, who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of murder, has been carried out in Ahvaz Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Ahvaz Prison in the early hours of Saturday, 6 June 2026. The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Mohammad Abiyat.

According to the report, Mohammad Abiyat, a 27-year-old resident of Ahvaz, was arrested three years ago following a fatal altercation and was subsequently sentenced to death on charges of murder. His execution was carried out in the early hours of Saturday, 6 June 2026, in Ahvaz Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
