Breathing in Confinement: The death sentence of at least one prisoner who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of murder was carried out in Gorgan Prison.
According to reporters of Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was executed by hanging in Gorgan Prison in the early hours of Sunday, 28 June. The prisoner has been identified by Breathing in Confinement as Mohammadmehdi Rahban.
According to the report, Mohammadmehdi Rahban, originally from the village of Sefid Chah in Behshahr and a resident of Bandar-e Gaz, had been arrested nine years ago on charges of murder and was subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary. The sentence was carried out in Gorgan Prison in the early hours of Sunday, 28 June 2026.

At the time of publication, no official sources had announced the execution of this prisoner.
Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
