Breathing in Confinement: The death sentence of at least one prisoner, who had previously been arrested on charges of murder and sentenced to death, has been carried out in Mahshahr Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Mahshahr Prison in the early hours of Monday, 8 June 2026. The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Ebrahim Modatzadeh.

According to the report, Ebrahim Modatzadeh had previously been arrested on charges of murder and was subsequently sentenced to death by the judicial authorities. The sentence was carried out in the early hours of Monday, 8 June 2026, in Mahshahr Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
