Breathing in Confinement: The death sentence of at least one prisoner, previously arrested on charges related to drug offences and sentenced to death by the judiciary, was carried out in Shiraz Prison.

According to reporters of Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was executed in the early hours of Wednesday, 1 July. The prisoner has been identified by Breathing in Confinement as Rasoul Rasouli.

According to the report, Rasoul Rasouli, from Fasa, father of one, had been arrested eight years ago on charges related to drug offences and was subsequently sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out in the early morning of Wednesday, 1 July 2026, in Shiraz Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
