At dawn on Monday, 19 May 2025, the death sentence of at least one prisoner convicted of “murder” was carried out in Langarud Prison, Qom.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Qom Prison early on Monday morning. The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed as Alireza Gholi Beigi.

According to the report, Alireza Gholi Beigi, aged 33 and a native of Qom, had been arrested about four years ago on charges of murdering his cousin and was sentenced to death. The execution took place at Qom Central Prison on the morning of 19 May.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
