Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Wednesday,  23 April 2025, the death sentences of at least five prisoners convicted of drug-related offences were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, five prisoners were hanged in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj, on the morning of Wednesday, 23 April 2025.

The identities of these individuals have been confirmed as Seyed Akbar Mousavi, Salman Naseri, Amanollah Barahouei, Salah al-Din Amoudi, and Abdullah Pashtoui.

As reported by Breathing in Confinement, Seyed Akbar Mousavi, son of Seyed Hossein, from Nourabad; Amanollah Barahouei from Zahedan; Salah al-Din Amoudi from Ardabil; Salman Naseri; and an Afghan national named Abdullah Pashtoui had previously been arrested and sentenced to death in separate cases on charges related to drug offences. The executions were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
