Former political prisoner, Atefeh Rangriz, was detained by security forces

Breathing in Confinement: On Monday, September 10, 2023, former political prisoner and women’s rights activist, Atefeh Rangriz, was once again detained by security forces.

According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League  in Iran, on Monday, September 10, Atefeh Rangriz, a former political prisoner, was detained by security forces.

Following her arrest, Ms. Rangriz was transferred to Semnan prison.

As of the time of reporting this news, there is no precise information available about the reasons for her detention or the  charges against this women’s rights activist.

On May 1, 2019, concurrently with the International Workers’ Day, in a protest rally in front of the Iranian Parliament, Atefeh Rangriz along with several other activists was arrested.

Later, Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Atefeh Rangriz to 11 years and six months in prison, as well as 74 lashes. Ultimately, she was pardoned and was released from Qarchak Prison on October 26, 2019, after five months and 25 days in detention.
