Number of Executions in Ghezel Hesar Prison Rises to Three

At dawn on Wednesday, 14 May 2025, the death sentences of at least three prisoners convicted on charges related to “drug offences” and “murder” were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, three prisoners were executed in the early hours of Wednesday, 14 May, in Ghezel Hesar Prison. Their identities have been confirmed as Sajjad Moradi, Reza Miri, and Gholam Abbas Cheraghian.

According to the report, Sajjad Moradi, from Nourabad, and Reza Miri, son of Mohammad from Harsin, had both previously been arrested and sentenced to death for drug-related offences. Gholam Abbas Cheraghian, son of Mohammad Hossein from Robat Karim, had been arrested on charges of murdering Mosayeb Yousefi and sentenced to death.

The sentences were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 14 May, in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
