Prisoner Executed in Khorramabad Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Friday, 17 July 2026: The death sentence of at least one prisoner, who had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death, was carried out in Khorramabad Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Khorramabad Prison in the early hours of Friday, 17 July. The prisoner has been identified by Breathing in Confinement as Akbar Sheikh Miri.
According to information received by Breathing in Confinement, Akbar Sheikh Miri, a 40-year-old man from Aligudarz who had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death, was transferred to solitary confinement on Tuesday, 14 July, along with Mehdi Shahrisvand and Alireza Barani, in preparation for the implementation of their death sentences.
Akbar Sheikh Miri’s death sentence was carried out at dawn on Friday, 17 July 2026, in Khorramabad Prison. Breathing in Confinement had previously reported the executions of the other two prisoners, Mehdi Shahrisvand and Alireza Barani.
No official announcement
At the time of publication, no official sources had announced the execution of this prisoner.
Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
