Seyed Mohammadreza Razavifard, Lawyer, Summoned to Serve 10-Year-and-One-Day Prison Sentence

Breathing in Confinement, Tuesday, October 27, 2026: Seyed Mohammadreza Razavifard, a lawyer in Qom Province, has been summoned to begin serving a prison sentence of 10 years and one day after his conviction was upheld. The summons was issued by Branch 7 of the Criminal Sentence Enforcement Office of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Qom.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of Prisoners’ Rights in Iran, the lawyer received an official summons on Monday, October 26, requiring him to report to the relevant judicial authority within five days to begin serving his prison sentence.

In a post on his X account, Seyed Mohammadreza Razavifard wrote: “My sentence of 10 years and one day in prison has been upheld, and I must report to the Sentence Enforcement Office by next week to begin serving my prison term.”

Razavifard had previously been sentenced in early July this year by Branch 1 of the Qom Revolutionary Court to 10 years and one day in prison on the charge of “propaganda activities against the country’s national security,” under Article 4 of the Law on Intensifying Punishments for Crimes Against National Security. His trial was held before the same branch on May 26, 2026.

According to published information, the case against the lawyer was brought under the aforementioned legal provision, which allows certain political, cultural, media and propaganda activities, as well as the transmission of content to foreign or hostile media outlets and social media pages, to be subject to criminal penalties when the specified legal conditions are met and the relevant judicial authorities determine that the law applies.

Seyed Mohammadreza Razavifard, a licensed attorney in Qom Province, is currently temporarily free on bail. Following the finalisation of his sentence, he is required to report to the Sentence Enforcement Office to begin serving his prison term.
