Breathing in Confinement November 18, 2020

Breathing in Confinement: Arsham Rezaei, a civil activist, and his nephew, Vahid Rezaei were arrested by security forces at Arsham’s home on November 17, 2020. Arsham had previously been arrested in January 2018 to be later released on bail awaiting the trial to be finalized.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Arsham Rezaei, had formerly been tried by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Moghiseh, on charges of “propaganda against the regime,”  “conspiracy and colluding to disrupt national security” as well as “insulting the Supreme Leader”. He accordingly, had been sentenced to 8 years and 5 months in prison which was later upheld by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeal. According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, 5 years of his sentence is applicable.

It seems that this civil activist has been arrested to serve his sentence.

It should be noted that Arsham Rezaei was arrested by the IRGC intelligence forces in Tehran on January 7, 2019, and was temporarily released from Evin Prison on November 13, 2019, on bail of 200 million Tomans.
