Vahid Khan Sanami, One of the Detainees from This Year’s January Protests, Sentenced to Death

Breathing in Confinement: Political prisoner Vahid Khan Sanami, one of those arrested during the nationwide protests of January 2026 (Dey 1404), has been sentenced to death.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Vahid Khan Sanami, who is currently imprisoned in Greater Tehran Penitentiary, was sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Fazlollah Salavati.
According to the report, the charge brought against him is “moharebeh” (enmity against God). However, no information has been released regarding the evidence presented in the case, the judicial proceedings, or the basis on which the conviction was established.
Vahid Khan Sanami was arrested in March 2026 in connection with the nationwide protests, and a hearing in his case was held in May 2026.
At present, there is no detailed information available concerning the conduct of the trial, the extent to which fair trial standards were observed, whether the defendant had access to counsel of his own choosing, or whether he was able to exercise his legal rights.
