Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Tuesday, December 3, the death sentences of at least three prisoners who had previously been convicted on charges of “murder” and drug-related offenses were carried out in Tabriz Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, these executions involved at least three individuals convicted of “murder” and drug-related offenses. The identities of the executed prisoners were confirmed as Khalil Hassan Zadeh, Hassan Panahi, and Rasoul Ebrahimi.

The report states that Khalil Hassan Zadeh, aged 33, had been arrested four years ago, and Hassan Panahi, aged 62, had been in custody for six years, both in separate cases involving charges of “murder.” Rasoul Ebrahimi, originally from Abhar, had been arrested and sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

The executions took place early in the morning of Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
