Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Wednesday, November 13, the death sentence of a prisoner who had been convicted of “murder” was carried out in Tabriz Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least one prisoner accused of “murder” was executed in Tabriz Prison at dawn on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. The identity of the prisoner, Salar Shami Pour, was confirmed by Breathing in Confinement. Salar Shami Pour, son of Karam, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of murder. Contrary to earlier statements, the victim’s family declined to grant clemency at the last moment, and the issued sentence was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, November 13, in the courtyard of Tabriz Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
