Breathing in Confinement: In the early hours of Tuesday, December 31, the death sentences of at least three prisoners convicted of “murder” and drug-related offenses were carried out in Chubin Dar Prison, Qazvin.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the execution of these three individuals took place on Tuesday morning, December 31. Two of the prisoners have been identified as Ali Safaei Zideh Sarai and Amir Mohammadi, while the identity of the third remains under investigation.

As reported by Breathing in Confinement, Ali Safaei Zideh Sarai, from Zideh Sarai, a district in the city of Someh-Sara, had killed two people during an altercation 12 years ago. While the family of one victim from Gilan pardoned him, Safaei’s family was unable to secure the pardon of the other victim’s family from Qazvin.

The second prisoner, Amir Mohammadi, had previously been arrested on a charge of “murder” and sentenced to death. The third prisoner, whose identity remains unknown, had been convicted of drug-related offences.

The executions were carried out at dawn on Tuesday, December 31, in Chubin Dar Prison, Qazvin.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
