According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least three prisoners were executed at dawn on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in Karaj Central Prison. The identities of these prisoners—Ali Akbar Akhaier, Ali Karami Chenar, and Akbar Khalili—have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.
According to a report from Breathing in Confinement, Ali Akbar (Mohsen) Akhaier from Malard, Ali Karami Chenar, and Akbar Khalili had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. These three prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement on Sunday, October 27, in preparation for the execution, which was carried out at dawn on Tuesday, October 29, in Karaj Central Prison.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
