Execution of Two Prisoners Carried Out in Kerman Prison

Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Monday, February 17, 2025, the execution of at least two prisoners who had been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of “murder” and “drug-related offenses” was carried out in Shahab Prison in Kerman.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were executed in Kerman Prison at dawn on Monday, February 17, 2025, on charges of “murder” and “drug-related offenses.” The identities of these prisoners have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Majid Najafi and Masoud Shiri.
According to information obtained by Breathing in Confinement, Majid Najafi, a resident of Rafsanjan, had previously been arrested on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death. Masoud Shiri had been arrested on charges related to “drug offenses” and the possession of 150 kilograms of opium, for which he was also sentenced to death. His brother, Milad Shiri, had also been executed in the past. The sentences were carried out at dawn on Monday, February 17, in Shahab Prison in Kerman.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
