Execution of two prisoners in Dastgerd prison in Isfahan

Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, a prisoner was executed in Dastgerd prison in Isfahan on charge of “murder”. Previously also, on Monday, June 20, 2022, another prisoner who was suffering from bipolar disorder, was executed on charge of “drug related crimes”.

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in the past month, two prisoners were executed on charges of “murder” and “drugs” in Dastgerd prison in Isfahan.

The prisoner executed on charge of “murder”, on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, was Amir Hossein Abadi, from Lanjan. He had been in Dastgerd prison in Isfahan for the last three years.

Mohammad Safari from Kalishad, accused of “drug related” crimes , was executed at dawn on Monday, June 20, 2022. He was suffering from bipolar disorder. As of this writing, his execution is yet to be announced.

An informed source about the execution of Mohsen Safari said: “Mohsen Safari had been in prison for about two years. In May, he was twice transferred to solitary confinement for execution. Every time, however, he was returned to the prison by the order of the forensic doctor, because of his medical record of confirmed bipolar disorder. But finally, the court rejected his illness and closed his case. He had an infant who was born while he was in prison.”

 

As of this writing, the execution of Amirhossein Abadi and Mohsen Safari has yet to be announced by the state media.

According to the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 101 prisoners were executed from May 20 to June 20, showing a dramatic and unprecedented rise compared with recent years.
