Ghezelhesar Prison; 9 Prisoners Hanged in a Mass Execution

Breathing in Confinement: On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at least 9 prisoners were executed collectively in Ghezelhesar Prison. Three prisoners for drug related charges, five for “murder,” and one for “waging war against God”.
According to “Breathing in Confinement” the news outlet of the prisoners’ rights league in Iran, on the morning of Wednesday, November 8, at least 9 prisoners were executed collectively in Ghezelhesar Prison. Mass execution of inmates in Karaj’s Ghezelhesar Prison has also occurred previously such as the execution of six prisoners on Wednesday, November 1, and the execution of 10 prisoners on October 18, which carried out in a similar manner in this prison.
As of the time this writing, the executions of these prisoners have not been officially announced by the Iranian state media or official sources. According to the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 730 prisoners were executed in various cities in the past year (October 11, 2022, to October 10, 2023).
