Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Wednesday, November 13, the execution of a prisoner convicted of “murder” was carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Ahmad Alizadeh, who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of “murder,” was hanged for the second time at dawn on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

The report states that this 26-year-old had repeatedly told the court that the incident was not intentional and claimed his “confession to murder was made under torture.” On April 27, 2024, he was taken for execution, but 28 seconds after being hanged, he was brought down with the victim’s family’s consent and revived with resuscitation. Later, however, the victim’s family again demanded the execution, and finally, the sentence was carried out for the second time at dawn on Wednesday in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.

In an audio recording released a day before his execution, Ahmad stated that, according to Islamic Penal Law, the victim’s family does not have the right to retract their consent after initially granting it. He objected to the second execution, saying, “I was sentenced to be executed once, not multiple times. It is illegal to bring me back to solitary confinement for another execution.”
