Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the death sentence of at least one prisoner convicted on charges related to “drug offenses” was carried out in Mashhad Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was executed at dawn on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, in Mashhad Prison on charges related to “drug offenses.” The identity of this prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Mohammadrasoul Hosseini Moghadam.

Based on information from Breathing in Confinement, Mohammadrasoul Hosseini Moghadam, a resident of Mashhad and father of two children, was arrested in mid-2020 on charges related to “drug offenses” and sentenced to death. However, upon review, his sentence had been reduced to life imprisonment. Following another review, his sentence was reverted to the death penalty. Before the execution, he was not granted a final visit with his family but was only allowed a phone call with them.

Breathing in Confinement reports that the execution took place at dawn on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad. According to an informed source, one week after the execution, the judiciary sent a text message to the family of Mohammadrasoul Hosseini Moghadam, notifying them of the approval to reduce his sentence to life imprisonment.
