Demonstrations against the rise in gas price; arrest of at least 40 protesters in the City of Yazd

Breathing in Confinement – Concomitant with the announcement of a 3 times rise in gas price by Supreme Council of the National Petroleum Products Distribution Company,  protest demonstrations erupted in various cities. At the same time, the intervention of security guards and riot police triggered violence. On Sunday, November 17, 2019, the prosecutor of Yazd announced the detention of 40 protesters.

“Public Prosecutor of Yazd announced the arrest of at least 40 people”, reported Breathing in Confinement quoting ISNA. The news source, however, did not disclose the identity and whereabouts of these detainees.

Following widespread protests in Iran, while reports reveal that at least nine people have been killed, the Ministry of Intelligence announced in a statement that chaos inciters have been identified.

According to unconfirmed reports, direct shootings by security forces have left hundreds of people wounded. And videos in cyberspace also show security forces directly firing on unarmed people.

 

In addition, the Iranian government continues to violate the rights of citizens, has completely shut off access to the internet since Saturday afternoon November 16, 2019. “Internet access has been restricted since last night with the approval of the National Security Council,” ISNA news agency quoted an informed source in Ministry of Communications.
