Breathing in Confinement – In the wake of the transfer of Narges Mohammadi and Athena Daemi from the women’s ward of Evin prison, their fellow inmates protested this illegal decision.
According to Breathing in Confinement- the news organ of Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, female political prisoners in Evin prison issued a letter of protest against the deportation of Narges Mohammadi to Zanjan Prison and transfer of Atena Daemi to ward 2 A in Evin Prison.
The transcript of the Evin Political Women Prisoners’ letter, a copy of which has been received by Breathing in Confinement is as follows:
From 21/12/2019 to 26/12/2019, in Evin Prison at women’s political-ideological section, a group of our fellow inmates went on sit-in strikes in protest against the crackdown of November protests. However, their peaceful protest, unfortunately, was responded with harsh repression by prison authorities. On 24/12/2019 Mrs. Narges Mohammadi was taken out of the ward on the pretext of meeting with a lawyer. She, however, was deported to Zanjan Prison. Atena Daemi also was allegedly transferred to ward 2-A. We, a group of women political-ideological prisoners in Evin Prison, being concerned about the situation of our fellow inmates, express our protest against the deportation, transfer and such treatment of political prisoners, while calling for our peers to be returned back.
