Breathing in Confinement: Eight political prisoners in Rajaeishahr Prison wrote a letter to the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in Iran warning that Loghman Aminpour’s life is in danger after the events in Evin prison.

According to “Breathing in Confinement“, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in a letter to Javaid Rehman, the UN special rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Iran, the political prisoners in Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj, Saeed Masouri, Hassan Sadeghi, Hamid Kashani, Ahad Barzegar, Saeed Eghbali, Motalleb Ahmadian, Payam Shakiba and Nasrullah Lashani, warned against the conspiracies of the Islamic Republic authorities endangering the life of Loghman Aminpour, a Kurdish political prisoner. They emphasized that: “Loghman Aminpour, has been transferred to solitary confinement and is being tortured because he is both a Sunni and a Kurd, and from Saqqez the city of Mehsa Amini”.

It needs to be mentioned that Loghman Aminpour has been transferred to a security cell in solitary confinement after the events in Evin prison, with no information regarding his condition.

Below is the full text of their letter, received to “Breathing in Confinement“:

Concern for Loghman Aminpour “because he is both a Sunni and a Kurd” from Saqqez and a fellow citizen of Mahsa Amini

To: Special Rapporteur on Human Rights (Mr. Javaid Rehman)

Dear Mr. Rehman,

We would like to let you know that after the large fire broke up in Evin prison, for which the Islamic Republic authorities are the first accused, the state TV and news agencies falsely accuse the ordinary prisoners at Ward 7, of attempting to break out of prison causing the fire.

The government’s intention is firstly to intimidate the prisoners and secondly to take revenge on the political prisoners. Following the fire, the authorities deported a group of political prisoners to other prisons, and transferred some others, including Loghman Aminpour to solitary cells under severe torture.  What the authorities did to Mr. Aminpour is only to “teach lesson to other prisoners”.

It needs to be mentioned that firstly, Mr. Aminpour was not in Section 7, and secondly, he has already been sentenced to 5 years in prison. But why did they choose him? This is firstly because he is a Sunni, and secondly, he is from Kurdistan, and his third crime is that he is from Saqqaz, Mahsa Amini’s city.

After enduring many years of imprisonment and experiencing the government’s conspiracies, we know well that being accused of these crimes is more than enough for the regime to execute any prisoner.

We, therefore, are extremely worried about the situation of Mr. Aminpour and urge you as well as human rights entities to take an immediate action to save his life.

Many thanks to you.

Yours sincerely,

The political prisoners at Gohardasht Prison (Rajaei Shahr)
