Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, December 17, 2020, Saeed Eghbali, a political prisoner imprisoned in Rajaeeshahr prison, went on a hunger strike after being transferred to solitary confinement by the orders of the   security chief at Rajaeeshahr prison. Mr. Eghbali was transferred to solitary confinement after the release of his audio file expressing concern about the detained protesters who were sentenced to death.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Saeed Eghbali , a political prisoner imprisoned in Rajaeeshahr prison in Karaj, went on a hunger strike on Saturday, December 17, 2020, after being transferred to solitary confinement. In an audio file, recently sent out of prison, he expressed his concern about the conditions of the under death sentence prisoners and asked the people to stay in the street to save their lives. Saeed Eghbali was transferred to solitary confinement by the order of the chief of information protection unit at Rajaeeshahr prison in Karaj.

 

On February 1, 2018, Saeed Eghbali was arrested at his home in Kermanshah by the agents of the Intelligence Department and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.

 

In September 2019, this civil activist was sentenced to 5 years in prison by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, headed by Judge Mohammad Moghiseh, for the charge of “assembling and colluding with the intention of acting against the national security” and to one year in prison for the charge of “propaganda activity against the regime”. The sentence was later upheld by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeal of Tehran Province. Therefore, referring to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment of 5 years of imprisonment for the charge of “assembling and colluding with the intention of acting against the national security” is applicable to him.

 

Saeed Eghbali was finally imprisoned on Sunday, May 31, 2020 after appearing in the Sentence Enforcement Unit of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office and was transferred to Evin Prison to serve his sentence.
