Breathing in Confinement, December 10, 2022: Earlier today, the death sentence of Mahan Sadrat, one of the detainees of Iran’s nationwide uprising, was referred to Judgment Enforcement Unit.  Concurrently, this 23-year-old political prisoner was transferred from Greater Tehran Prison to Rajaeeshahr Prison.

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Kazem Sadrat Madani, the father of Mahan Sadrat, announced in an interview with the state-run newspaper Sharq that his son’s death sentence has been upheld by the Supreme Court and that it has been referred to the Judgment Enforcement Unit.

He quoted his son as saying: “Several times in trial, I said that the knife was not in my hand.”

As per the reports, earlier today, Mahan Sadrat has been transferred to Rajaeeshahr prison in Karaj.

“Mahan Sadrat Madani”, a young man born in 1999, is one of the detainees of the nationwide uprising in Iran.  His name was announced by the Judiciary News Agency, and his charges were declared as “Moharebeh by using a cold weapon (knife) in a way that caused insecurity and fear,” as well as assembly and conspiring to commit a crime against the country’s security, setting fire to a motorcycle, destroying the complainant’s mobile phone, and causing intentional injury to the complainant with a knife.

On Thursday, Mohammad Reza Qanbartalab, one of the Mahan’s plaintiffs, told the state-run newspaper Shargh that all the plaintiffs in this case have withdrawn their complaint. Despite this, however, the judiciary of the Islamic Republic has confirmed Mahan’s death sentence, saying that he has been convicted of Moharebeh (fighting against God).

Mahan Sadrat’s trial in Branch 26 of Tehran Revolutionary Court headed by Judge Iman Afshari was completely flawed and he was sentenced to death without having the right to counsel.

The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran condemning Mr Sedarar death sentence, demands immediate action from all international communities to save his life.
