Breathing in Confinement: Political prisoners of Ghezel Hessar Prison in Karaj announced through a statement that they are going on a hunger strike in protest against the execution of four Kurdish political prisoners as well as the widespread executions.
According to “Breathing in Confinement,” political prisoners in Ghezel Hessar Prison in Karaj, are going on a hunger strike every Wednesday in protest against the execution of four Kurdish political prisoners and widespread executions in this prison and other prisons in the country.
The full text of the statement is as follows:
“Since our exile to Ghezel Hessar Prison until now, we have witnessed the spread of the wave of executions of prisoners (political and non-political) and in every possible way, we have reacted to this crime and as much as possible have spread the relevant information. Therefore, security forces on Monday, January 28, 2024, attacked the political prisoners’ ward to silence our protest and prevent the disclosure of the wave of executions, and by beating, threatening, and insulting us, they destroyed and confiscated our belongings. All this brutality is to prevent the disclosure of executions and murdering the prisoners by government, especially on the eve of the execution of four Kurdish compatriots and while other prisoners are awaiting the execution of their sentences.
At the same time, we witnessed the announcement of a hunger strike by some of the prisoners under the death sentence in Ghezel Hessar Prison. They announced that they would go on a hunger strike every Wednesday to draw public attention in order to stop the executions.
We, the political prisoners of Ghezel Hessar Prison, join the campaign to stop the execution machine and will go on a hunger strike every Wednesday alongside other prisoners until the halt of this killing machine .”
