According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, prisoners protesting against death sentences in Evin, Qezel Hesar, Mashhad, Khorramabad, and Karaj prisons, while emphasizing the continuation of their strike on Tuesdays and the campaign of “No to Execution,” congratulated the New Year and wished: “We hope the new year will be the year of victory for the people of Iran and the realization of freedom and justice.”

The full text of this statement is as follows:
“Dear freedom loving people of Iran,
We, a group of political prisoners, have been on hunger strike every Tuesday for the past seven weeks in protest against the issuance and implementation of death sentences and to stop the slaughter and executions.
Today, on the eve of the New Year in the solar calendar and the arrival of spring, congratulating all compatriots, we hope that the new year will be the year of victory for the people of Iran and the realization of freedom and justice. We hope that soon, our country be free from discrimination, violence, tyranny, and exploitation, with a system which respects human rights for all citizens. We hope that all medieval punishments like execution be abolished.

We are confident that the day is not far off when with the realization of the sovereignty of the people of Iran over their own destiny, no citizen will be oppressed and unjustly imprisoned for their beliefs and thoughts.
But until that day, from within the prisons of the regime we continue our moral mission to protest against execution, and we ask all awakened consciences and free individuals to support us on this path.
Finally, given the recent reports of the UN Human Rights Council and its emphasis on the urgent need for international condemnation of human rights violations and executions in Iran, we believe that the victory of the people and the achievement of justice are only possible via the unity and solidarity of the people of Iran.
We reiterate the unity and collective action to stop executions regardless of the belief, nationality, ethnicity, religion, and type of charges of the convicts, and in pursuing this difficult path, we extend a helping hand towards all the free people of Iran and the world.
