Breathing in Confinement: In a new case opened against the political prisoner, Soheil Arabi, in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, he was sentenced to two more years in prison.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in a new case on charge of “spreading lies to disturb the public order,” Soheil Arabi, a political prisoner and blogger, imprisoned in Rajai Shahr , was sentenced to two more years in prison as well as a fine of 5 million tomans. His trial was held on July 28, 2021 in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Afshari.

 

As a supplementary punishment, the Revolutionary Court sentenced Mr. Arabi to two years of need for obtaining a permit from a judicial authority in case of willing to travel abroad as well as two years of obligation to appear seasonally in the monitoring and supervising office. In addition, his cell phone was confiscated.

 

Mustafa Daneshjoo, Soheil Arabi’s lawyer, confirmed the news on Twitter, saying that he would appeal the judgement.

 

Soheil Arabi, a photographer, blogger and civil activist, was arrested by the Revolutionary Guards in December 2013. He was initially sentenced to death for “Sab ul-Nabi (blasphemy)”, but his sentence was later overturned by the Supreme Court. And after retrial, he was sentenced to 7 and a half years in prison. However, in October 2019, he was again tried by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, headed by Judge Ahmadzadeh who sentenced him to three more years in prison as well as exile to the City of Borazjan.
