Breathing in Confinement, March 25, 2021: Two weeks after the deportation of the political prisoner Maryam Akbari Monfared, the prison authorities refuse to hand over her personal belongings. In addition, on the first day of her deportation, Ms. Akbari, without having access to her personal belongings, was illegally held in solitary confinement in Semnan province’s Narcotics Detention Center, where the Ministry of Intelligence agents interrogated and pressured her for several hours.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, after the deportation of the political prisoner, Maryam Akbari Monfared, to Semnan Prison on March 9, 2021, she is still being held without basic equipment and in very poor hygienic conditions. Prison officials have so far prevented the delivery of her phone card and personal belongings.
Ms. Akbari is only permitted to call her family, in prison security office under the supervision of an agent and exclusively to one phone number. This is while she is the mother of three girls and it is impossible for her to contact her children through one phone number.
“On the first day of her deportation, on March 9, 2021, Ms. Akbari being denied of access to her personal belonging, was illegally held in solitary confinement in Semnan province’s Narcotics Detention Center. She was interrogated and pressured by intelligence agents for several hours,” said an informed source about the situation of Maryam Akbari Monfared.
“The hygienic condition of the prison is also very deplorable and despite the outbreak of Covid-19, no sanitizers or disinfectants are provided to the prisoners, the prisoners are obliged to wear public slippers in public places, and after nearly two weeks of Maryam’s deportation, her personal belongings are yet to be handed over to her,” the source added.
The political prisoner, Maryam Akbari Monfared, who has been held in prison without a day off since December 30, 2009, was deported to Semnan Prison on March 9, 2021 without any prior notice. Earlier, Breathing in Confinement had published a report on Ms. Akbari’s deportation.
