Detention of Fatemeh Davand; Amnesty International, condemning the detention of Fatemeh Davand, called for her release

Breathing in Confinement: On Thursday, August 6, 2020, to serve her 3 years and 9 months sentence, for participating in the November 2019 protests, Fatemeh Davand was arrested and transferred to Urmia Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Amnesty International condemned the detention of Fatemeh Davand. “Fatemeh Davand had been under torture during her detention and has been sentenced to prison in an unfair trial in which her confessions have been cited,” stated Amnesty International.
Amnesty International reports: “Fatemeh Davand, an Iranian Kurdish woman, was summoned to Urmia Prison to serve her 3 years and 9 months sentence in connection with her peaceful participation in the November 2019 protests. Previously also she had spent five months in prison in relation to the protests.”
Fatemeh Davand was sentenced to prison after an unfair trial in which her “confessions” were cited. The confessions that as per her report, had been obtained under the torture and other ill-treatment.
“Amnesty International calls on the Iranian authorities to release Fatemeh Dadvand, as she has been imprisoned only for the peaceful exercise of her rights for freedom of assembly, and just based on her forced ‘confessions’.”
It is noteworthy that the political prisoner, Fatemeh Davand, has been sentenced to a total of five years and five months in prison, as well as 30 lashes in separate courts in the Counties of Bukan and Mahabad. A few days after her arrest during the November 2019 protest rallies, the forced confession of this Bukani citizen was broadcast on channel 2 of the national TV. On March 25 this year, Ms. Davand had been temporarily released from Urmia Prison, on a bail amount of one billion tomans.
