Evin prison’s guards beat the political prisoners Hamid Manafi and Afshin Shahsavari

Breathing in Confinement: On Friday, December 25, 2020, two political prisoners, Hamid Manafi and Afshin Shahsavari, were beaten by Evin Prison guards and as a result, one of Hamid’s Manafi’s fingers was dislocated and Afshin Shahsavari’s scalp was broken.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the two political prisoners, Hamid Manafi and Afshin Shahsavari, were beaten by prison guards after protesting against humiliation and mistreatment of ordinary prisoners by prison officials.
As per the report, on Friday, December 25, the Evin prison’s agents took the two political prisoners, Mr. Shahsavari and Manafi, to the prison yard and beat them for insulting the guards. The involved agents’ name were “Jalal Mobini, Mehdi Mahmouli and Amrollahi”.
A day after, on Saturday, December 26, Hamid Manafi and Afshin Shahsavari were threatened by the supervisor judge of political prisoners in Evin.
Hamid Manafi, a Turk activist, was arrested for participating in the celebration of International Mother Language Day in Nasim Town in Tehran and was later released on bail. In 2016, he had been sentenced to ten years in prison as well as two years in exile in the city of Masjed Suleiman on a charge of “participating in the formation of a gathering in order to disrupt the national security.” To serve his sentence, Hamid was arrested at his workplace on July 21, 2020, and was transferred to Evin Prison.
Afshin Shahsavari, 38, from the City of Qazvin, was arrested in March 2018, on charge of “collaborating with the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization.” After completion of his interrogation, Afshin was transferred to the general ward of Evin Prison. His hearing session was held in August 2019 and he was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison on charges of “conspiracy to commit a crime against national security” as well as “propaganda activities against the regime.”
