Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, March 5, 2022, the political prisoner, Habib Afkari, was released from Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Saturday, March 5, the political prisoner Habib Afkari was released from Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.

 

Habib Afkari was arrested on December 13, 2018, in connection with the nationwide protests in August of the same year. From September 2020 until his release, Habib and his brother, Vahid, were being held in the Ebrat ward of the Adelabad prison in Shiraz, also known as the closed ward.

 

Habib Afkari is said to have been released on parole. His brother Vahid is still serving his sentence in Adelabad Prison.

 

Navid Afkari and Vahid Afkari were arrested on September 17, 2018, and Habib Afkari on December 13, 2018, in connection with the August 2018 nationwide protests. During their interrogations, Afkari brothers were repeatedly beaten and tortured for forced confessions.

 

Despite serious ambiguities in his case and a worldwide wave of support for him, Navid Afkari, an Iranian wrestler, and brother of Habib and Vahid, was executed at dawn on Saturday, September 12, 2020, in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.
