Breathing in Confinement: On December 28, 2022, Mir Yousef Younesi, the father of the imprisoned student Ali Younesi, was arrested by security forces at his home in Shahrood and taken to an unknown location. In addition, Mr. Yonsi’s workplace alo was sealed by the security forces.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on December 28, 2022, Mir Yousef Younesi, the father of the imprisoned student Ali Younesi, was arrested in Shahroud and transferred to an unknown location.
According to the reports received by “Breathing in Confinement”, during the arrest of Mr. Youncei, the security forces also sealed his workplace.
Mr. Younesi’s son, Reza Younesi, announced his father’s arrest in a tweet. He wrote: “Mir Yousef Younesi, Ali Younesi’s father, was arrested this morning at my grandparents’ house in Shahrood by six plain clothes agents who refused to present an arrest warrant.”
Mir Yousef Yunsi was a political prisoner in the 80s. During the 2009 protests, he was arrested and was kept in solitary confinement for several weeks instead of his son, Reza Younesi, who was a student activist at Polytechnic University.
Ali Younesi, a Sharif University student, and winner of the International Astronomy Olympiad, along with his friend Amir Hossein Moradi, winner of the Physics Olympiad, were arrested in March 2021 and each were sentenced to 16 years in prison. Both of these imprisoned students are being kept in ward 5 of Evin prison.
