Breathing in Confinement, December 21, 2020: Twenty three political prisoners are being held in in Rajai Shahr Prison, Hall 10, Ward 4, and 5 others in one of its sub-halls. These political prisoners often have long sentences and are considered the most long serving political prisoners.
The ward is constantly under the control of CCTV cameras, and with the availability of the least possible welfare and health facilities.
Because of having been held in prison for many years, the prisoners are in need of medical care. This however, is unfortunately denied of them as Amin Vaziri, the assistant judge in charge of the political prisoners, prevents it.
Hassan Sadeghi, Shahram Pour Mansouri, Arash Sadeghi, Mohammad Banazadeh Amir Khizi, Hamzeh Savari, Abolghasem Fooladvand and Babak Dadbakhsh are among the sick political prisoners who have been deprived of medical care for a long period of time. Supplying poor quality food, denying the prisoners of access to heating and cooling equipment and other facilities such as sports clubs, libraries and shops as well as limiting their access to the outdoor fresh air, are the other examples of mistreating the prisoners.
Disregarding the outbreak of the Coronavirus infection, prison officials refuse to provide the prisoners with even the most basic hygienic facilities.
The food is of very poor quality and the prisoners are deprived of raw materials for preparing food. Since the time of their transfer to Hall 10, by the order of the of the prison director, the prisoners have been restricted access to fresh air which poses a serious threat to their health.
In addition, the prisoners are allowed to contact their families through a phone call for only 10 minutes, once a week which has remained unchanged despite the prevalence of Covid-19 and the resultant cancelation of face to face visits.
Below is some details about each of these prisoners.
