Breathing in Confinement- on Thursday, November 21, Saeed Sangar and Kamal Hassan Ramadan, two political prisoners at Urmia Prison, were transferred to an unknown location.
According to “Breathing in Confinement” the news organ of Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Thursday, November 21, Saeed Sangar and Kamal Hassan Ramadan were transferred by the security forces to an unknown location.
On August 10, 2000, in the County of Marivan, Saeed Sangar was arrested on the charge of “membership in the Mojahedin-e-Khalq Organization” and he later was sentenced to death. In the Sanandaj appeals court however, his sentence was reduced to life imprisonment. Saeed Sangar was transferred from the Interrogation Center of Ministry of Intelligence to the Ward 209 of Evin Prison, where he was kept in solitary confinement for two years. He was subsequently transferred to Urmia prison.
This political prisoner was transferred from Urmia Prison to Sanandaj Prison in November 2007. He was returned back to Urmia prison on September 1, 2015.
On December 23, 2016, in Branch 4 of Sentence Execution Unit in the City of Sanandaj, his sentence was reduced to 18 years in prison. Accordingly, his release date must have been on July 26, 2018. After a year and a half, however, he has not yet been released.
In addition, on August 28, 2014, Kamal Hassan Ramadan was arrested by security forces in the City of Urmia. And after 4 months of being under interrogation at IRGC and the Ministry of Intelligence detention centers, he was transferred to the central prison of Urmia.
In August 2015, in Branch 2 of Urmia Revolutionary Court, he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on the charge of membership in Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Shortly afterward, based on the law article of surrender to the verdict, his sentence was reduced to 7 years in prison.
In May 2017 however, he was summoned by the Sentence Implementation Unit of Urmia Central Prison where an execution sentence was officially handed down to him. Previously in November 2011, this sentence had been issued by Branch 4 of Revolutionary Court for a person named “Kamal Sur”. Surprisingly, and only because of having a similar name, Kamal Hassan Ramadan, was introduced by the Ministry of Intelligence as “Kamal Sur”. And as such, this political prisoner received a death sentence.
