Breathing in Confinement: On Thursday, February 24, 2022, a former political prisoner, Majid Mutab Pourrezaei, was arrested by security forces at his workplace in Tabriz and transferred to the city’s prison to serve his sentence.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, former political prisoner, Majid Mutab Pourrezaei was arrested by security forces at his workplace in Tabriz and transferred to the city’s prison.
Majid Mutab, along with a number of other former prisoners, was arrested by the agents of the Ministry of Intelligence on February 8, 2020. After spending 45 days in custody, he was released on a bail of one billion Tomans, awaiting the trial. Mr. Mutab was then sentenced in absentia by the Revolutionary Court in Tabriz to five years in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “membership in the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization.” Majid Mutab appealed his in absentia sentence and afterward, Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court of Tabriz reduced his sentence to 3 years and 8 months in prison.
Finally, Branch 7 of the Court of Appeals reduced Mr. Mutab Pourrezaei’s sentence to 5 months in prison on charge of “propaganda against the regime” and to 2 years in prison on charge of “membership in the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization.” According to Article 134, the most severe punishment, ie 2 years of imprisonment, is applicable to him.
Political prisoner Majid Mutab Pourrezaei had also been detained for seven and a half years in the 1980s.
