Breathing in Confinement: On February 24, 2022, Soheila Hijab, a political prisoner imprisoned in the women’s ward of the Correctional Center in Kermanshah, was taken to the hospital because of her deteriorating condition.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Thursday, February 24, 2022, Soheila Hijab, a political prisoner detained in the women’s ward of the Correctional Center in Kermanshah, was taken to a hospital out of the prison.

 

She had recently contracted Covid-19 without receiving any medical care, as the infirmary of the Correctional Center in Kermanshah had been closed because there were no doctors there.

 

Soheila Hijab had been arrested by security forces in June 2019, and was released from Evin Prison on March 14, 2020 on 3 billion Toman bail awaiting the trial.

 

Ms. Hijab was previously sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Moghiseh, on charges of “propaganda, collaborating and collusion against the regime, disturbing public minds with the intent to create chao,s as well as forming an illegal group.” Her sentence was later upheld by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals in Tehran. Pursuant to Article 134, 5 years of imprisonment is applicable to her.

After Ms. Hijab’s sentence was upheld by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals in Tehran, she was arrested on Saturday, May 23, 2020, and transferred to Evin Prison to serve her sentence. A few months later, Soheila Hijab was transferred to Qarchak prison in Varamin. She was deported to Sanandaj Prison on November 16, 2021, and finally, was transferred to the Kermanshah Correctional Center on January 7, 2022.
