Breathing in Confinement: On the night of November 13, 2022, after expressing public concern about the health condition of the political prisoner, Hossein Ronaghi, the judicial branch denied the deterioration of his condition by publishing a photo of his meeting with his mother. This is while a day before, he had been transferred from Evin prison to Sina Hospital due to his deteriorating physical condition.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, by publishing a photo of the political prisoner Hossein Ronaghi in the hospital, the authorities of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic reacted to the protests. The judiciary denied the critical condition of Mr Ronaghi and claimed that the news of recent weeks about his condition including his leg fracture and heart problems are not true. The statement added, “He was not taken to the hospital in critical conditions, and that the decision to send him to the hospital was only made to prevent the occurrence of any “inappropriate” clinical conditions.”
This statement without explaining about the “inappropriate clinical conditions” emphasizes “therefore, he is doing well and is completely stable, and he will be discharged from the hospital soon.”
The judiciary’s claims regarding the favorable condition of Mr. Ronaghi is while in recent days, the forensic doctor visited him and certified that he was not capable of tolerating punishment.
Since 2009, Hossein Ronaghi has been imprisoned for 9 years when he developed many physical problems.
