New sentence of one year in prison for Zartusht Ahmadi Ragheb

Breathing in Confinement: Zartusht Ahmadi Ragheb, a civil activist imprisoned in the Greater Tehran Prison, was sentenced in absentia to one year in prison by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court in Shahriar.

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, while in Greater Tehran Prison, the civil activist Zartusht Ahmadi Ragheb was sentenced to one year in prison in a new case.

As per a verdict issued in absentia on February 19, 2022, by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court in Shahriar which was announced yesterday, citing Article 500 of the Islamic Penal Code, Zartusht Ahmadi Ragheb was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of propaganda against the regime. One of the pieces of evidence for this condemnation was the referral of Ministry of Intelligence to the publication of photos and articles by this civil activist in support of political prisoners.

 

On February 21, 2022, Zartusht Ahmadi Ragheb was arrested by security agents and transferred to Branch 1 of the Evin Prison Court where his sentence was announced and he, without any prior knowledge of his conviction, was transferred to the Ward 4 of Evin Prison and afterward to the Type 4 of the Greater Tehran Prison to serve his sentence.

 

On October 4, 2020, to serve the remainder of his suspended imprisonment, Zartusht Ahmadi Ragheb was arrested by law enforcement agents of Police Station 11, at the order of Shahriar Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office. He then was released on January 3, 2021, from Greater Tehran Prison after completing his sentence.

 

On October 3, 2020, in another case, Zartusht Ahmadi Ragheb was tried in Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge Mohammad Moghiseh on charge of propaganda against the regime through signing a petition for Ali Khamenei’s resignation .

 

In addition, on June 15, 2020, Mr. Ahmadi Ragheb was summoned to Branch 4 of the Shahriar Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office where he was arrested and transferred to the Greater Tehran Prison to serve his sentence. He was released on bail from prison on September 1, 2020.
