Breathing in Confinement: After 16 days, on Thursday, May 5, the civil activist Behnam Mousavand ended his hunger strike at the hospital.

According to the Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a civil activist Behnam Mousavand, ended his hunger strike at the hospital.
Mr Musavand had been on hunger strike since Tuesday, April 19, in protest of prison conditions.

 

On February 1, 2018, Behnam Moosivand was arrested at his home by intelligence agents and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Center, Ward 209 of Evin Prison and on March 19, 2018, he was released on bail.

In September 2019, Behnam Moosivand was sentenced by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, headed by Judge Mohammad Moghiseh, to five years in prison on charge of “conspiracy to act against national security” and one year in prison on charge of “propaganda activities against the regime.”  The verdict was later upheld by Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeals. According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment, ie 5 years in prison, is applicable to him on the charge of “conspiracy and colluding to act against national security.” Mr. Moosivand was finally arrested on June 15, 2021, after appearing in the Judgment Enforcement Unit of the Evin Court, and was transferred to Evin Prison to serve his sentence. He was transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj in September 2020.
