Breathing in Confinement: On Monday, May 9, 2022, after spending two and a half years in prison, the political prisoner, Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee was released from Amol Prison. She had been arrested again on November 9, 2019, for her new case opened against her while in prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the political prisoner, Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee was released from Amol Prison. She had been arrested by security forces on November 9, 2019 and transferred to prison to serve her sentence.
On November 9, 2019, Ms. Ebrahimi was arrested and transferred to Qarchak Prison in Varamin for a case that was opened during her previous detention in Evin Prison. In this case, she had been sentenced to 3 years and 7 months in prison. In addition, Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran banned her from membership in any groups or parties for a period of two years. The verdict was later upheld in the so-called appeal phase without a court hearing being held. Pursuant to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, 2 years and 1 month of her sentence was applicable to her.
On December 13, 2020, after being beaten, Golrokh Iraee was transferred from Qarchak Prison to the IRGC Intelligence Detention Center known as Ward 2A of Evin Prison, where she underwent interrogation for 43 days. And then on Sunday, January 24, 2021, she was returned back to Qarchak prison in Varamin. However, a few minutes after arrival to Qarchak Prison, Ms. Iraee was deported to the women’s ward of Amol Prison, without being permitted to collect her personal belongings and clothes.
In April of last year, Ms. Iraee, unaware of the court hearing and in absentia, was sentenced to one year in prison, by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari. She was also banned from membership in political groups and parties for two years as well as a ban from leaving the country for 2 years.
On October 24, 2016, Golrokh Iraee, who had previously been serving her prison sentence for her activities in Evin Prison, faced a new case while in prison. On April 8, 2019, by the end of her previous sentence, and after depositing bail for her new case, she was released from Evin Prison.
