Seven Baha’i citizens in Shiraz were sentenced to a total of 39 years in prison

Breathing in Confinement May 16, 2020: Seven Baha’i citizens living in Shiraz, were sentenced to a total of 39 years in prison based on a ruling issued by the Branch-1of the City’s Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Sadati. They are convicted on charges of “propaganda against the regime and membership in anti-regime groups aimed at disrupting the national security”. The initial trial court had been held on May 10, 2020.

According to Breathing in Confinement the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Navid Bazmandegan, Bahareh Ghaderi, Niloufar Hakimi, Elaheh Sami-Zadeh, Soodabeh Haghighat, Nora Pourmardayan, Ehsanullah Mahboub Rah-e-Wafa are the Baha’i citizens who are sentenced to prison.

As per the rulings issued by Judge Sadati, head of Branch 1 of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court, Navid Bazmandegan, Bahareh Ghaderi, Elaheh Samizadeh, Soodabeh Haghighat, Nora Pourmardayan, each are sentenced to six years in prison while Ehsanullah Mahboob Rah-e-Wafa to one year and Niloufar Hakimi to eight years in prison. Niloufar Hakimi has also been sentenced to five years in prison by the Criminal Court.
